20/03/2020 Working From Home – A Beginner’s Guide

What. A. Week.

I’ve found myself channelling Ross from Friends – “I’m fine!”

As I sit down to write today’s blog post I’m left wondering what can I possibly say that hasn’t already been said?

We’ve all seen the lists circulating on social media, “Fun things to do at home,” “Staying active at home,” and “Things that haven’t been cancelled.”

So instead, I’m taking a light-hearted look at working from home.

As someone who works from home in-between classes, I would like to share my experiences with you and prepare those of you now at home for what’s to come…

You will end up talking to yourself. Please don’t be alarmed. With no-one else to bounce off you have to effectively bounce off yourself, say ideas out loud and have meetings with yourself.

The house will not look cleaner. In fact, it may end up looking worse. Sorry, just didn’t want you getting your hopes up! Working at home means eating lunch at home which means extra pots to wash. Gah.

Every day is dress-down Friday. Now this is a perk. You are about to get even MORE wear out of your dressing gown. Don’t listen to the people that you say you have to dress for work to feel ready for work or that you will feel better if you dress up. LIES!

You will jump out of your skin when you hear post come through your letterbox. You are now at home in the day and it’s a lot quieter than your usual work environment. You will now be in when your postie delivers your mail. Just be prepared.

Daytime-TV on your lunch break is a winner. Lunchtime at home is a lot more comfortable and the Loose Women are great company. For 20 minutes you feel like a child again having a day off school poorly.

Working from home may just be healthier than you thought. That’s right, you heard me. No buns because it’s Sandra’s birthday, no fish and chips Friday and no fuddles.

The commute is so easy. Honey I’m ho… Oh, wait, I was already home!

You will want to start 10+ DIY projects. Spending so much time at home means you will start noticing all the stuff that needs doing around the house. You wonder if it would just be easier to move. Cue an unscheduled coffee break house hunting on Rightmove.
